About Me

Who I am Not:

I am not “Josh Peck” the child actor as detailed on IMDB - Josh Peck. I am not a glamorous actor, I am a computer “programmer/sysadmin/manager/anything else you need” and I live in Kansas, not Hollywood.

Professional Career:

I currently am employed at LandingMedia, LLC, as a Sr. Software Engineer, mainly doing web services development in Ruby and Perl.

For the past few years, I worked at the Kansas Research and Education Network (KanREN, Inc) as a Sr. Systems Engineer. While at KanREN, I managed our Systems department, acted as the IT Security Officer, Web Team Leader, and Disaster Recovery Chief, and occasionally managed to fit in some system administration and programming.

Before I started at KanREN, I worked as a Sysadmin at the Leonard H. Axe Library, Pittsburg State University, managing AIX, GNU/Linux, and Windows servers and writing library automation software.

Where I Work When I Have Time:

I also periodically do some work under the guise of WebOmega Systems or Vigilant Support. Currently, I am spending a fair abount of time finishing up the Vigilant Support Network Monitoring Software and launching Vigilant Support.

Much of my work centers on developing web and database applications, web services, SOAP/REST, and XML. I may be caught working on just about anything technical, but these areas are primarily where I focus my time.

Other Stuff I Work On:

ThinkQuest New York - Website Competition: I have acted as a judge for the websites in this competition. I even remembered to write about it in ThinkQuest NYC Judging is Complete.

Pear::PHP::Net_IPv6 I spent a bit of time helping get the PHP Net_IPv6 library updated to mirror the function calls presented by Net_IPv4. It now works for the application on which I was attempting to use it, so I’m not too active with this anymore.

Working with Grassroots.org to help provide IT services to non-profit organizations.

Volunteering with the Friends of the Lawrence Public Library.
